In today's blog, we're interviewing Alice: passionate tea maker and, no biggie, founder of Fabric Yard.

1. What do you do at Fabric Yard?

I make cups of tea for Laura the days thats she’s in and on the days that she’s not, I do her job of getting all the orders out. I also do the fabric buying, accounts and paperwork with some decidedly sporadic social media stuff thrown in.

2. What are the first 3 traits people notice about you?

Gah, I don’t know. Probably that I listen more than I talk especially if I don’t know someone very well. Also, I may come across as organised to people but I’m really not..... finally I guess maybe I come across as being calm although my immediate family would definitely disagree with that one!!

3. What is your favourite fabric?

I probably couldn’t narrow it down to one. I’ve always loved Alexander Henry Lost At Sea in Tea, I also love Snacks from Cotton + Steel and I love love love Birch Maritime Birds (definite blue and red theme going on here). I should really hide the last metre we have in the shop before it’s gone for good as I haven’t actually used any of it myself! Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish what I love from what I know other people will love so it’s refreshing to have a look at the fabrics and find my own personal favourites.

4. What’s the best thing you’ve ever sewn?

I don’t sew all that much, so I would say my sewing leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve sewn a couple of quilts which for me have been big jobs. Probably the one I did for my mums birthday last year was the neatest, out of my comfort zone and probably my favourite finished product too. It was mostly Art Gallery fabrics.

5. What’s your favourite thing about fabric yard?

Without a doubt, it’s that I’ve been able to work it around my family. I’m able to take my girls to school, pick them up, take them to their after schools stuff and could probably count on one hand the number of times I haven’t been able to get that days orders to the Post Office in time for collection. It works in perfectly with family life. It’s been great that being an online shop, Fabric Yard has been able to give me that freedom.
